About this guide
Each guide on this site takes one question about Unemployment Insurance in New York, answers it, and links to the official page where you can act on it. The site is independent and is not affiliated with the Department of Labor or any other government agency.
What it covers
The guides explain filing a claim, who qualifies, what benefits pay and for how long, and the weekly claim with its work search. Others cover denials and appeals, overpayments, taxes on benefits, phone numbers and Career Centers, disability benefits, and finding work. Questions and answers adds health coverage, food benefits, and other help after a job loss.
How it is checked
Every figure, deadline, and phone number, and every link to a government page, is checked against the official page it comes from, most of them on dol.ny.gov. Each guide lists those pages under "Official sources" and shows the date they were last checked.
What it cannot do
This guide has no view of your claim and no way to change it. It cannot decide whether you qualify, and it does not give legal advice.
- To check on or change your claim, go to the Department of Labor, using the ways on the contact page.
- The Department decides whether you are eligible. If you disagree with a determination that denies you benefits or affects the amount you can receive, you have the right to request a hearing, and the appeals guide explains how.
- For legal advice about your own case, speak with a lawyer.
