Which number do you call for New York unemployment, and where are Career Centers?

Short answer

Call the Telephone Claims Center at (888) 209-8124, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., to file a claim by phone. Career Centers help with finding work, and their addresses and phone numbers are listed below by city.

The Department of Labor takes unemployment claims online or by phone, and it says filing online is the best way. It gives the same advice for claiming weekly benefits and checking payment information: do it online, with your NY.GOV ID.

To send letters or documents about your claim, fax them to (518) 457-9492, or mail them to the address on the Department's Unemployment Insurance Contact page, which also gives the mailing addresses for hearing requests and payment plans. Write your Social Security number at the top right corner of every page, and keep your fax confirmation sheet, because the Department does not confirm that a fax or letter arrived.

If someone filed an unemployment claim in your name, or you suspect other benefits fraud, report it to the Department right away, on its Report Fraud page or by calling its fraud hotline at (888) 598-2077. You can make the call anonymously.
